About this deal

If you have some experience with speaker systems or have had to move your speaker around to different locations or just different rooms in the same house, you know how distinct the audio sounds in each place, even from the same source.

Sony STRDH590 5.2 multi-channel 4k HDR AV Receiver Review

The sound of the Sony DH590 amplifier may seem a little too rough and brittle to some, so if you like the soft, warmer sound, this device may not be for you. The DH590 also performed well with stationary speakers, but perhaps even better when used with bookshelf speakers and subwoofers in a smaller room. If you are someone who owns many streaming devices or video displays and needs the Surround Sound system to be compatible with all of them, the Sony Home Theater receiver has you covered. For a 5.1-channel HT system, combined with a bookshelf or floor-standing speakers, a Sony AV receiver may be an ideal choice. It is very easy to set up, easy to use, and supports important AV technologies. If you want a device with simple and basic functions, at a good price and without the need for extra capabilities, then this device is for you. Most importantly, the STR-DH590 doesn’t save on performance, so we won’t be disappointed about its capabilities. However, if one insists on the extra features offered by more expensive AV receivers, opt for another model instead.úIf you’re the kind of guy or gal that prefers to have their EQ settings preset, the STR-DH590 has a bunch of intuitively designed ambient reverb preset options which should be satisfying for most tastes. Included is 5 channel stereo (let the speakers do all of the work), Hall (which adds some reverb to simulate a concert hall experience), Jazz Club (for a more refined sound), Live Concert (for a more open, yet still ambient sound), Sports (we’re not quite sure what sports are. Maybe it’s just “ports” spelled incorrectly?), and Stadium, which makes the audio sound bouncy and muddled. Some people just don’t like to be in large crowds. For those of you who can’t handle a large public event, using a 5.2 surround system with ambient reverb is a solution, albeit not a crazily accurate one. Dimensions Today, I want to share with you my thoughts on the Sony STR-DH590 AV receiver. In this review, I’ll go over its key features, design and interface, audio and video performance, and give you my final verdict on whether it’s worth your hard-earned money. The most important feature to note here is the STR-DH590’s direct 4K and HDR pass through, a feature which will allow people with High Dynamic Range compatible TVs and media to experience the HDR video, without sacrificing video quality due to multiple adaptations. When we compared this receiver to a receiver which does not feature HDR pass through, there was a very significant difference.

For music, the DH590 offers direct 2-channel stereo and multi-channel sound modes, as well as DPL II Music, Enhancer (to improve lower quality files) modes, and modes such as Hall, Jazz, and more. The testing was performed in a living room where diffuser acoustic panels were mounted on the walls and sound-absorbing ceiling panels hung from the ceiling, thus ensuring proper acoustics. Controlling the acoustics of the room is essential to reach optimum sound. Absorption panels with diffuser-Two in one product performs two functions at the same time, as it ensures the absorption of deep sounds and the proper sound dispersion in space. There were some wrinkles with the HDMI equipment I used. Specifically, neither of my Beyonwiz PVRs would work with the HDMI input labelled BD/DVD. Both worked perfectly with the Game and Media Box inputs. The Beyonwiz T4 also worked with the SAT/CATV input, but while the picture came through from the T3 on that one, the sound wouldn’t. I tried different HDMI cables. Who knows what was going on there. The BD/DVD input worked fine with the Sony disc player (above) and my own selection of UHD and Blu-ray players. A useful button on the remote displays video and audio signal information on the screen, so you’ve got some information to work with. A 4K HDR pass-through, 5.2 multi-channel surround sound, Bluetooth connectivity, and Dolby Vision imaging technology are just some of its prime selling points. We take a comprehensive look at all this home theater receiver has to offer below. 1. Specifics
